...a chance to draw near to our loving God

Event Type: Themed Retreat/Extended Week

Theme/Focus: Individually-Guided Prayer

Led by: Pat Callaghan and Revd Rob Hingley

Rob Hingley and Pat Callaghan are trained and experienced in prayer guidance according to the methods and spirituality explored by Ignatius Loyola in the 16th Century - a Christian spiritually described as ‘finding God in all things’. These retreats offer you a chance to deepen your relationship with God through meditation on Scripture whilst enjoying the peace and beauty of Nicholaston House’s setting. Daily individual guidance is offered to help enrich your prayer experience. Apart from these sessions and acts of worship the retreatants are conducted in silence so that you may hear God’s word for you more clearly. 9 night and 6 night retreats offer a fuller experience, whilst a 3 night weekend (limited spaces) offers a shorter taster retreat.

Most of us rarely spend time in silence, shutting out the busyness of our world and listening to God. This retreat gives space and help for you to commune with God away from daily pressures.

A previous retreatant said, 'it was like being on holiday with the one you love the most'.

Rob Hingley and Pat Callaghan, who lead the retreat, are trained and experienced in prayer guidance according to the methods and spirituality explored by Ignatius Loyola in the 16th Century - a Christian spirituality described as 'finding God in all things'. Apart from the introductory sessions, the retreat will be individually guided, allowing each retreatant to follow his/her own path with God. Bible passages or other aids to meditation are suggested and each retreatant meets daily with his/her prayer guide to reflect on their journey of prayer. Together the retreatant and guide seek to discern the leading of the Holy Spirit, who 'strengthens our inner being with power, that Christ may dwell in our hearts with faith' (Ephesians 3:16).

There is silence from the first night until the end of the retreat, apart from acts of worship and meetings with the prayer guide. This silence helps us to develop inner awareness and listen to God's Word for us. Morning communion and evening meditation are offered. Paint, clay and other art materials are available with an optional workshop to explore their use in prayer. Enjoying the garden, the beach and the moor may all contribute to your retreat.

GOD'S House: The Story of Nicholaston House, by Derrick Hancock. The incredible story of a retreat house in one of Wales’ most spectacular beauty spots has been published.

‘God’s House’ is a detailed account of how Nicholaston House came into existence by the man who had the vision and was given instruction direct from God.

In 1990 God unmistakably led Sue and Derrick Hancock to Swansea to see a vision fulfilled which God had given them some years previously. The booklet (A5, 53 pages, colour) gives a brief factual account of what God did and is doing. It has been written for two reasons - to give glory to God and to show what very ordinary people can do when they step out in faith with God. 'All that we have accomplished, You have done for us' - Isaiah 26 v 12.
