Empowered to Soar

One of the added blessings of serving Nicholaston House as Administrator, is the drive to work. In days long gone by, and in service of Queen and Country, drives from work to home would have included the dreaded M25 on Friday afternoons. I am pleased to say that my commutes nowadays are far more pleasurable.

As I have been driving around over the past few weeks it has been a real pleasure to observe various birds of pray soaring over the Gower landscape. Those who have visited us at Nicholaston House will be only too familiar with the local wildlife. We have our own wild bird garden which attracts a wide variety of birds. Recently, someone left a gate open and a few local sheep were found happily munching on the lush green grass in the garden. On arriving at the House today it was pleasing to see sheep were happily contained the right side of the cattlegrid! Quiet often ponies and cattle roam on the nearby ‘Bryn’ and can even be observed walking past the office window as they venture up and down the single track road at the rear of the House. These sightings really do bring a sense of joy to the day and provide a constant reminder of God’s creation.

As I drove to work today another bird of pray was observed, this time swooping from one side of the valley to the other. It was wonderful to watch, even though the sighting was brief. One imagines that something, such as breakfast, was the bird’s objective as its head and eyes were clearly fixated on a target.

Gentle, but nonetheless profound, reminders such as this prompt us to fix our head and eyes upon our Lord Jesus - ‘…those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.’

As a House Team we are constantly reminded of Isaiah 40:31 - we were recently gifted a painting by Prophetic Artist, James Long, entitled 'Empowered to Soar.' The painting now hangs in the staff rest area and serves as a constant reminder to us that God has ‘empowered us to soar’ - even when we feel weary, weak and faint or stumble and fall, God is there for us.

Be encouraged today, whatever your circumstances - remember the Lord God ‘gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.’

Isaiah 40:28-31

New International Version (NIV)

Do you not know?

Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary,

and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

Have a blessed day.
